The Port of Everett has become a very complex quasi/municipal business enterprise since its creation nearly 100 years ago. The lines of business of the marine terminal, marina and real estate continue to diversify and grow. The 2010 capital budget and operating revenues are projected to each exceed $20 million, making our port one of the strongest drivers of our local economy as well as a portal for recreation and public access for the region. It has also been consistently recognized for its leadership in responsible environmental stewardship.
The commissioners of our port need to have necessary skills, background and energy to provide the fiduciary and policy leadership for what has become a very broad agenda. The port is not a one or two issue entity — it is a very sophisticated organization with an ongoing myriad of multi-faceted issues. As a former Executive Director for the port I understand these complexities.
Mark Wolken has the unique blend and depth of experience in business, planning, community involvement, and an understanding of law and process. He also has demonstrated leadership and is not afraid to make tough decisions. I strongly encourage you to look at the background of the candidates as you make your selection for Port District 2. I believe you will see that Mark Wolken is the most qualified.
