Senate Bill S-1867 has passed. It is now in conference for reconciliation and will soon need only Obama’s signature to become law. This so-called “2012 National Defense Authorization Act” will ironically leave us little worth defending. In its Section 1031, the president is granted authority to imprison U.S. citizens, in the U.S., without court order, without charge, without legal representation, without time limit, and in conditions of military-defined confinement.
In other words, you and I, or any citizen can be “disappeared.” This is the way dictatorships treat their people. This is literally the end of our democracy. And this fundamental change was requested by the Obama administration. Doubt this? Google “YouTube S1867 CSpan” and watch the bill’s co-author, Sen. Carl Levin, make absolutely clear it was Obama who ordered this language.
So I guess that’s it! As you read this, this outright attack on the American people will have gone to the president. And we now know, it was his administration that specifically requested these police state measures. Our local representatives, Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, and Rep. Rick Larsen, appear willing to do no more than object meekly, and then vote for it anyway. Goodbye American Dream. Hello American Nightmare. We could soon very well see neighbors “disappeared” from the streets of Everett. For that is what this so-called “defense” bill allows. I believe this complete failure by our representatives of both parties to defend us and our neighbors, and our Constitution, is one of the driving forces of the Occupy Movement.
