It is difficult to believe, but President Obama’s 2013 budget would drastically reduce our national defense. He has already gone on record threatening to veto the $642 billion defense bill passed recently by the House Armed Services Committee because, “it spends too much on national security.”
Hopefully, Congress will come to its collective senses and fulfill its constitutional responsibilities by providing for our common defense. Too many cuts have already been implemented, which imperils our ability to retain a strong military. The Department of Defense plans to cut our armed forces by more than 103,000 troops. Shrinking our troop level while saving money could adversely affect our ability to fight. Take an example, post World War II, Korea and Vietnam. We never seem to learn from our past mistakes. With Iran and North Korea heating up, it is a prime example of the dangerous times in which we live, and gives further proof that the proposed cuts are unconscionable.
President Thomas Jefferson warned that “the price of liberty is eternal vigilance.”
It would seem that now is that time; what do you think?
