The American people are demanding a revolution and their movement is known as “Occupy Wall Street.” Protests are taking place in cities all around the United States with signs exclaiming “We are the 99%” in reference to the economic inequality and corporate power in America. The goal of this movement: to inspire leadership and change.
The issue behind economic inequality and this particular movement, among others, are the factors of power and control. One percent of the population controls the wealth of the United States, as well as the rest of the population. The facts are true and they have been displayed for us all along. Power and control often times lead to violence and that is exactly what has happened with “Occupy Wall Street.” Government officials and police officers have taken their role and duty to protect and serve as a window of opportunity to abuse their authority.
“Occupy Oakland” on Oct. 25 became a victim of police brutality. Police projectiles were purposely aimed at and injured several peaceful, non-violent protestors. The streets of Oakland and the sounds of gas grenades, and the shots of bean bags and rubber bullets, were terrifyingly reminiscent of a battle ground. The police and the majority of government officials are the “99 percent.” In reading this you may ask what it is that I am proposing. I am proposing that you challenge authority; demand an explanation for the events that are occurring around us at this very moment, and never, ever back down!
