Dems motivated by love of country

I have been reading a lot of letters lately, particularly the one by Mr. Robert Johnston (“Dems motivated by hatred of Bush,” July 26), that seem to define Democrats as nasty, ill-informed anti-American individuals. This simply isn’t so.

We are not motivated by a hatred of the president. We are motivated by a love of country. We are mothers and fathers, soldiers and teachers, laborers and nurses. We are your neighbors. We are Christians, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists.

A lot has been said on the editorial pages over the past few months. Everything evil has become equated with being liberal or being a Democrat. Perhaps it is time to stop the finger pointing and name calling, and begin to really look at the issues of the campaign. Are we safer? Do we have jobs? Has “No Child Left Behind” been fully funded? Do the rich really need more tax cuts? Do we really want to give up the right to sue for damages when we are wrongfully injured?

I support John Kerry because I believe in the vision that he has for our country. These are troubled times, and I believe that he has the strength and the wisdom to get our country back on course.
