Sid Schwab is correct that our politics are off-kilter

Another great summary from Sid Schwab of where we are, collectively (“Meet the new year, same as the old year,” The Herald, Dec. 30). Much appreciated as confirmation things are as off kilter as it seems to many of us.

The observation that Republicans see politics as a zero-sum game is important. I would take it further in that a zero-sum worldview is damaging beyond politics, and seems to be how conservatives view almost everything. Every perceived gain by others is a personal threat to them. This has to change if we are able to come together again in a meaningful way. A rising tide really does lift all boats!
