Doesn’t really solve problem

Traffic is a problem – but I 745 is not the solution. I 745 pretends to mean more money for roads, but it will actually mean less. I 745 cuts funding for transit and shifts it to making more room for cars. This means more pollution for us and our children because more cars and slower cars both add to pollution problems.

Even if we ignore all of the identified problems caused by increased pollution (increased asthma in adults and children, poor visibility, increased environmental sensitivities) our region is in for a big shock When a region fails to meet the federal air quality standards it can be denied federal funding for important road projects. This happened recently in Atlanta.

Let’s be honest. I 745 means more cars. More cars means more pollution. More pollution means less dollars for roads (because there won’t be matching federal dollars). The very measure that is touted by the asphalt industry as the “solution” to our road problem is going to make it worse. We will have more cars, less mobility by transit, and less total money to solve the problem with.

I 745 is a bad idea. Vote No on I 745.
