Nonpartisan PolitiFact just awarded our president the Liar of the Year award. The Washington Post, with a storied history in the 70s of nearly rescuing democracy, lists his lies at nearly 7,000. But when chatting with some guys at the park the other day, they kept saying: “All politicians lie. What’s the difference? He’s standing up for America. And the media is so biased anyway.”
That people believe what they want is not only ancient wisdom, it’s a cliche. But that cliche must somehow miraculously apply to only others because what I’m seeing is insanity opening the door to democracy’s peril and fascism.
As difficult or painful as it may seem, we have no choice but to face the reality of our president and why he’s in office. We should consider racism as part of the equation. Whatever the explanation, anyone who says it’s because he’s good for the economy needs rethink their ethics.
If one thinks that saving barely conscious fetuses is worth all this immorality and lying, they have a very big self-dug hole to crawl out of. Or at the very least wonder what Christ meant by that losing one’s soul and gaining the whole world stuff. That’s something we all should ponder.
