Snohomish County Councilman Jeff Sax opposing the Wild Sky Wilderness because it “will attract millions of visitors each year” and we cannot handle the increased traffic is just about as ridiculous as the majority of Snohomish County councilmembers and executive Aaron Reardon tugging at our heartstrings to amend our state GMA laws (from farmlands to recreation use) so the children can have more soccer fields.
Maybe Sax and the others have confused a national wilderness with a national park and are trying to confuse the citizens they represent by claiming a lack of ballfields while they are really trying to pave the way for a NASCAR track. If they are so hot on a racetrack, they should look at land already zoned for that use and not change the law. If they want more ballfields, they should look at the recreation land allocated within the county’s GMA urban plan and not contaminate the GMA rural plan by changing the law. It took the state and county years to agree on and adopt the GMA – don’t change it now.
