This newest turn by the U.S. Supreme Court is horrifying (Jan. 22 article, “No limit for corporations on election cash”).
I say shame on you whomever voted in favor of this. Corporations are not citizens! They are made up of citizens and the views of the board may differ entirely from the views of the workers and stockholders. It would be unfair for a corporate board to decide on the political representation deserving of support for every stockholder and worker involved.
Board member types make a lot of money on their own, if they like a candidate, let them spend their own money on those campaigns! If they are going to spend corporate profits on political campaigns, they better be putting the decisions up to a vote by the shareholders. One vote per holder, not one vote per share. People are citizens, not shares. This rule should be enforced upon any publicly traded company that chooses to contribute to campaigns.
