Emotion the key to all action

Regarding the Viewpoints commentary, “Our conflicted brains”: The author, K.C. Cole, states that we have at least two brains working together, more or less. She calls one the “ancient reptilian” brain, which is wrong. Humans are mammals and mammals are animals. So we humans are animals first and foremost.

It seems than since humans became civilized, we have slowly tried to bury our animal selves as a whole. Due to this fact, we have slowly forgotten how to understand the emotions that we all feel. Every action taken by us is based on emotion first. First there is emotion, then our mind puts things into motion.

Our minds are just the computer that runs the body. It is our minds that decode what emotions we feel and what we need to do about it. As humans we control our minds, but what controls that? Our spirit within our soul controls all of our actions, period. The mind just moves the body for the spirit within us all. Our minds move our breath, our tongue, and mouth so we can talk. But it’s what is inside our box that makes us talk, our minds just do what we tell them to do.

I really like the fact that K.C. Cole is trying to understand and explain us humans. But unless she can truly understand what one is feeling and how, and why, we will never truly understand ourselves as a whole. This is why humanity is not indivisible. If we could learn that it is not about color, it is about culture. I feel that understanding as a whole is lost understanding. Ms. Cole should keep up the search, though; soon she might understand what is, and become more aware.
