Herald reporters and editors should be ashamed of themselves for not adequately covering the departure of the USS Abraham Lincoln from Naval Station Everett. The Navy is a large part of our community and we should celebrate the sacrifices that our military families make for our freedoms. Who among you is willing to leave your family for six months – missing birthdays, weekends and all holidays – so that our nation’s security is protected? The men and women of the USS Abraham Lincoln serve in one of the few noble professions of our day. Their families live without a loved one, but know that they also contribute to the greater good of our nation.
We wrap ourselves in a warm blanket of freedom and we take it for granted. Our Navy families deserve our support and our thanks. I am proud of the men and women of the USS Abraham Lincoln. I am proud of their families. It is time to reach out to our Navy community and support them in any way that we can. They are our local heroes and they deserve front-page support. Editors, shame on you.
