Expand airport, use taxes to fix roads

As our county struggles with huge population growth and the resulting traffic that has frozen commuters, let’s consider using the Paine Field expansion and all the taxes that would be generated at new surrounding business to the airport as a resource to improve Highway 9 and U.S. 2, which desperately are in need of expansion.

Snohomish County will always lag behind King County in getting needed road improvement revenue and yet we are ignoring one of the county’s primary potential new revenue resources while people continue to die needlessly on two very dangerous county highways. It is time to think outside the box and expand Paine Field for the good of all the people in the county. New airplane engine technology seems available so that along with restrictions on operating hours, which other expanded airfields have done, the expansion of Paine Field can work for everyone.

I live close to Paine Field and would love to travel to Boise as I did recently without having to travel to Sea-Tac. Let Sea-Tac be the hub and use Paine Field for those regional flights which it is perfectly able to service. It is time to move forward on this issue and stop playing politics with Paine Field and use the airfield to its highest and best use while at the same time making our county highways safer.
