Family planning financially sound

Since 1970, millions of women have received preventative care because of Title X, a program Richard Nixon signed into law. The recent, heartless attack on this program, on women’s health care, has to stop. Stopping federal funds from supporting care through Planned Parenthood would be a costly mistake. For most women, Planned Parenthood is their only health care provider. It would be wrong to take this away from women all over the country who turn to Planned Parenthood for their services.

At a time when more and more women and families cannot afford health care because of increasing costs and a struggling economy, the House leadership wants to completely gut the programs that provide preventive care, including birth control, family planning, lifesaving cancer screenings and HIV testing.

Eliminating the national family planning program and stripping Planned Parenthood of all federal funds means that women across the country will lose access to basic primary and preventive health care. For those who truly want to save money, family planning programs like Title X are fiscally sound. For every public dollar invested in family planning, taxpayers save nearly $4.

I know I speak for a lot of women when I say this attack must be stopped. I stand with Planned Parenthood as they fight for women’s health care and fight against stripping funds from family planning.
