I read the article about the City of Everett’s condemnation of the Waits Motel (“Everett City Council votes 5-1 to condemn Waits Motel, despite turnaround,” The Herald, Aug. 3), in particular City Attorney David Hall’s statement that the city will help long-term residents find “decent, safe and sanitary” replacement housing (as they are required to do). Further, he said it’s “almost unheard of that you can’t find somebody comparable housing.”
This amazes me in that any and all agencies that are in place in Everett to assist people find housing have failed, in every way, to find even a long-term temporary residence for a family of five. Two adult parents (both disabled) and five children, children who will need to enroll and attend school. Children who are experiencing trauma and homelessness in the worst sense every single day. Parents who have, apparently, exhausted all resources. I would like the city attorney to find this family the housing that is apparently so easy to acquire. What am I missing here?
Everett and its housing agencies, it appears you are failing. Big time.
