Last week, the Supreme Court made a decision in a reverse discrimination lawsuit brought by firefighters. I feel they made the right decision.
Although we find racism in virtually all aspects of life, we also need to find the means in ourselves to discourage that racism. By adding focus to one’s race, we simply highlight the difference and, by making decisions based on that difference, create a wedge when one racial group becomes slighted because of it.
Martin Luther King Jr. once dreamed that a man would be judged by his character and not the color of his skin. These firefighters earned scores worthy of a promotion through their skill, experience, intellect and character. Did they not deserve their promotion?
