In regard to the report about the Ford Explorer’s bumpers (“Economy briefly,” Nov. 30), oesn’t it seem logical that Ford’s propaganda ministry would come up with a better explanation than saying their bumpers meet government requirements and customer expectation? Can’t you imagine a salesman telling you what a great vehicle the Explorer is, cost only $29,000, but will cost about $5,432 to fix if you get a 5 mph bump? What about a bump of 40 miles per hour and up? Let’s face it, junk is junk and Ford isn’t alone, regardless of whose nameplate is on the front end.
