GOP counties not afraid of mail vote

The Sept. 20 letter attacking the GOP’s supposed rationale for opposing all-mail balloting deserves a response. Why would 30 of 39 Washington counties have switched when those counties are historically Republican strongholds? The assumption that “all-mail voting increases voter participation” and “always favors Democrats” is easily disputed. Are Democrats too lazy to go to the polls? These voters can participate through the absentee ballot system already. Why aren’t they currently participating?

I oppose all-mail balloting and I am disappointed that Democrats in this county want to remove my ability to choose how to vote.

As we saw in King County in the last election, the majority of problems were in the mail balloting operations.

I think that people should be able to vote absentee if they need or want to. However, that is no reason to force me to vote by mail.

Mail balloting exponentially increases the opportunities for fraud. My ballot could be stolen from my mailbox, lost in the mail, lost at the auditor’s office, misplaced, or even destroyed intentionally. Shall I send it certified mail?

I think it is a sad commentary on the state of American voters that many can’t be bothered to take 15 to 20 minutes out of their day a couple of times a year to exercise their most important right! People in other countries will walk miles in greater percentages just to vote. I think I can drive five blocks to my polling place, say hi to my neighbors if I do have to stand in line, and participate in the democratic process.

Please don’t take away my right to choose how and where I vote and I won’t force you to justify why you need an absentee ballot.
