Washington state’s constitution provides for education by making it the paramount duty of the state. The citizens of Washington show their continued belief in this concept by overwhelmingly voting for public education issues. Education initiatives come before the public and are approved. Even with this show of support, elected officials have not always listened to the voters. On Nov. 2, we will have an opportunity to elect a governor who supports public education and will listen to the citizens of this state.
Chris Gregoire supports public schools. She opposes charter schools that drain money from the public schools system. Chris Gregoire has pledged to fully fund the cost-of-living salary increases mandated by voter-approved Initiative 732 and will fight to increase state funding for public education. She understands that using a single test, such as the WASL, to make high-stakes decisions about students is unrealistic and wrong.
I’ve listened to advertisements lately that state, “it’s time for a new direction in Olympia.” Don’t be misled. Chris Gregoire will be that new direction.
I am one of the “Women for Gregoire.” We are a diverse group of women from across the state. We believe in Chris Gregoire and want to see her elected as our next governor of Washington. Please join me in making the future of Washington one we all can look forward to by casting your vote for Chris Gregoire.
