A letter on Wednesday, “Letter illustrates radical thinking” responded negatively to a letter printed the previous Sunday about President Obama and his faith (“He’s not acting like a Christian”). Rather than dispute the message with facts to support his criticism, he distastefully chose to employ the tactic of attacking the messenger.
The writer of the original letter stated that President Obama has not displayed the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control). She did not say that these were the only “true and worthy values” of the world (although I believe they are essential values that we would want a president of the United States to possess and practice).
Also, since when are these values “radical”? I believe people of all faiths hold these as important values for any person.
Perhaps the reader disagrees and thinks it is fitting for a president to display unchecked anger (“I’m going to kick some b… for this oil spill”), blame others for the economic mess he has created (a budget deficit in 18 months of $3 trillion), ignore the will of the people (using reconciliation to pass Obamacare into law when 57 percent of Americans disapprove) and in general behave like a despot, flaunting his power to do whatever he wants.
The writer did not mock the president; she simply related an observation that Obama lacks grace. He repeatedly puts his nose up in the air and reprimands anyone with whom he disagrees, starting with, “Let me make this clear…”
