Millions may have descended on Rome for the pope’s funeral, but there’s a problem.
You see, this pope left the Catholic Church in the throws of turmoil and scandal. He was in charge more than 25 years so he bears the blame for “not minding the store.” Any CEO of a corporation the size of the Catholic Church would be fired when it is rocked by the sorts of scandal we have seen.
Even scripture speaks of a man proving himself by being able to manage his own household. Guess what, the church was John Paul’s household. If you ask me, it is pretty messed up! There are people all over who were molested by priests and have been paid off by the church. Who knows what has gone on that has not yet reached the front pages of our newspapers. There are cries from inside the church for this and that. There are injustices and double-talk in the policies of the Roman Catholic Church in abundance. What about that? What about communion? The church’s policy for giving out communion is narrow and unfair.
So, this pope is not “great” as was suggested by one of the cardinals. His house is a divided and fractured one and if a house is divided, it cannot stand. This pope is not special because he left a lot of “dirty laundry” for somebody else to pick up. In fact, some of it smells to high heaven.
You can praise John Paul to the skies today, but the truth is he didn’t do a very good job!
