I am retired from Boeing. When I turned 65 my wife and I became quite concerned because I went on Medicare and lost the Boeing health insurance that provided medicine prescription coverage. My wife’s health is not very good and she uses several drugs that are very expensive. It would have been a financial catastrophe for my family to lose this health insurance.
When my wife checked with the Boeing Machinist Union she found out that she was still on the health insurance until she turns 65. This health insurance was negotiated by the union with Boeing. It does not cost to pay union dues – it pays.
