Help businesses relocate to build AquaSox stadium downtown

I write this letter with the purpose of expressing my support for the Everett AquaSox. With there being some controversy about the building of their new stadium, I feel it is necessary for me to do this. My family has been going to AquaSox games for as long as I can remember. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of me watching their games.

I think them moving into the downtown area is what is best for the team, considering the requirements would make it difficult to play at Everett Memorial Stadium. This location change would also help businesses located in the downtown area, as crowds from the AquaSox would notice them while going to the game.

However, there is a problem with this, and that is building the stadium would mean the removal of businesses in that area (“’A game of chicken’: Downtown Everett businesses react to proposed stadium,” The Herald, Jan. 4). This would be difficult for many small businesses to move.

If I were to come up with a solution to this problem, I would say that the city should give compensation to the businesses. Sadly, there are many stories of small businesses being forced to relocate by cities and not getting any help or money. I think Everett should ensure that if the stadium forces the businesses to relocate then the city should make it a priority to help them.
