First I’d like to say thanks for Dan Hazen’s and Ron Friesen’s Herald Forum articles on Saturday. Both spot on.
In response to Hazen’s, unions are a necessary evil. But I have experience with one good union, SPEEA.
It was started by engineers and drafters at Boeing many years ago and I belonged to it most of my 36 years there. They use Retention Ratings to determine layoff order. Retentions are assigned by first level supervisors to protect their most productive and valuable workers. There are limited automatic upgrades to protect employee’s with many years of service. It works. No one likes to be told they aren’t the best employee, but reality has to fit in to the equation to make it fair.
In response to Ron’s, why are people still supporting politicians who by their actions demonstrate they are not interested in their constituents’ well being. They are interested in protecting the wealthiest and greediest people in America. Biden has it right. Let the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes. Let the wealthy pay their workers an honest wage. And fund the IRS so they can find those people cheating on their taxes. Why would you want to protect people cheating on their taxes? Especially if they are wealthy!
We need to fund mental health and drug addiction to get people off the streets. We need more police, we need to fix the potholes in the streets. These are things that affect all of us every day. Cutting taxes to the wealthy seems like it was a pretty stupid thing to do. Who did this, and what lie did they tell you to justify it?
Actions used to speak louder than words.
