How many more guns will assure safety of all?

My letter is actually a question, or questions, for my fellow citizens. We’ve all heard the pronouncements by the National Rifle Association that the only way to stop these shootings, what they call gun violence, is for the good guy to have a gun. This, of course, is a suggestion that we all need a gun for personal protection.

We now have, in this country, more guns than we have people. Many states allow carry and open- carry to “assure” that protection, when needed. And, it seems, that many more guns are purchased every time a mass shooting takes place. But, we keep having these mass shootings, seemingly every week or more. So far, in 2022, including Buffalo, there have been 198 mass shootings. The year isn’t even half over.

So, here’s my question: When do we have enough guns to assure this protection? And end these shootings? What is the magic number? And, importantly, when do we vote in enough congressional members who will be willing to take a strong stand on this issue, and actually do something substantive about it? A stand that will protect citizens. Even if it jeopardize their congressional position?

I don’t expect answers to these questions, as they’ve been asked thousands of times by so many of us. And, so far, no answers. No other western country suffers from this disease. Think about that.
