Sometimes you need to read the Seattle newspaper to get some news that our local paper somehow manages to miss or leave out. On Monday there was an article in the Times about how ridership is down for the ferries, but revenue is up.
The one thing it says to me is that the ferry system is just overpriced or charges way too much. It is something I have thought of for years. I never could understand why they have summer rates and winter rates either. Does it cost more to run the ferry system in the summer? Plus they have the option of adding on a fuel surcharge if they feel fuel prices are too high.
I remember reading once that the ferries are just an extension of our state highways. If that is true then we probably have the highest tolls for highways in the nation, if not the world.
