Regarding the Tuesday article, “Trail plan draws resistance”:
I read with interest and understand the concerns and arguments of those who oppose this plan, but I want to encourage and thank the city. I appreciate the good will and great expense the city is offering to those of us here at Marysville’s far southeast boundary. This is a peace offering which will not only help heal any lingering annexation hard feelings but will also create safer environments for our children. My family uses Jennings Park and the Centennial Trail quite a bit. I have never seen any unusual loitering or any evidence of crime. These facilities are immaculate and are made so by your volunteers who I have seen out picking up trash.
Anyone who is forced to sell their property due to a government’s exercise of eminent domain has a right to complain or be upset by the action. Nevertheless, I believe that years of future public enjoyment of these facilities will prove that this was the right decision for the greatest majority of our citizens.
The trail offers one other continually paying dividend: the attraction of foot and bicycle traffic away from 83rd Avenue NE. This roadway of rolling hills is narrow, unlit and much of it still does not have sidewalks. Let’s give them safe places to ride, run walk and play.
