Aren’t there laws against jaywalking? The city of Everett has a terrible case of people darting out in front of moving vehicles and in the middle of traffic. Why do I care? I care because for the second time in the past week alone, I came terrifyingly close to hitting these pedestrians. I frequently see adults putting children’s lives in danger by running through traffic, too. If this is happening to me, it has to be happening with many other citizens as well.
Yesterday, I was driving through a green light and a guy on a 10-speed bicycle decided to ignore the “no walking” indicator for the crosswalk and kept right on pedaling, despite cars driving through the intersection. I had to swerve and brake suddenly to avoid hitting him. A couple of days ago, a guy decided to leisurely cross through the middle of Evergreen Way, halting traffic while he stood in the center lane and then ran across the remainder of the road.
I really hope the local government is taking measures to prevent and/or control this. It’s getting to the point that the jaywalkers are more dangerous than traffic.
