Just say no to ‘do-it-yourself’ stations

We have recently noticed a very disturbing trend at our neighborhood grocery stores in Lynnwood. Fred Meyer, Albertsons – and maybe others – have installed “Do it yourself” stations.

Recently, we needed to purchase some items at Albertsons and there was not a single checker at the regular check-out counters. It was all do-it-yourself scan it, weight it, bag it and pay for it – with no discount for doing it ourselves.

We refuse to use these stations (one clerk handles all the scanners for the do-it-yourselfers), which have caused many check-out clerks to lose their jobs. Several of the checkers themselves have told us that they wish other shoppers felt the same.

Wake up shoppers, your own jobs could be the next go-around.
