I read something recently in The Herald about efforts to preserve the history of the Port of Everett, and that brought back a lot of memories for me.
I was born in Everett in 1930 and when I left for the Army in 1948 the city was growing, but the city limit was at 52nd Street. I lived at 5507 Wetmore, which was changed to 5311, but was Laurel Heights at the time.
We use to go to the wharf and get fresh fish and they would cook fresh shrimp on the wharf — boy were they tasty, fond memories. If the funds can be found to preserve the port’s history, I say “go for it.” Maybe someday I can return home to see it.
My family is gone, deceased, but in the 1930s and ’40s my grandfather Cap Temmermand was well known, and my dad Jesse was also known as a good carpenter.
Enough of history and thanks for the time.
