I just finished reading the Dec. 21 article about the lake at the Snohomish Freshman Campus. (“A field of streams”). While I find the article informative, the whole picture has not been addressed. Principal Diana Plumis, is quoted as saying, ” It’s not an area our students are allowed in. So it doesn’t cause disciplinary problems.” Maybe so, but what about the apartments, that front the west side of the lake, with water almost to the back door?
There is a housing development with 25 homes just north of the campus, with many small children. In this complex is a day care and a group home housing people with disabilities. While talking to my daughter who lives in this development on Dec. 20, she informed me there was a rubber boat with several boys in it on the lake.
My grandson catches the bus to Valley View at the Freshman Campus. Instead of cutting across the field at 6:45 a.m., he leaves at 6:30 a.m. so he can walk around on roads with no sidewalks, and very little shoulder to get to his bus. I find this to be a serious safety issue, not only because of darkness, but with the rainy weather it is hard to see. I find this to be a very attractive nuisance, with potential for very serious consequences.
