The Herald story regarding a fine by the state Public Disclosure Commission against Sen. John McCoy, D-Tulalip, (“McCoy fined for late reporting of thousands in contributions,” The Herald Aug. 24) was published the day after the senator and I, as his campaign treasurer, appeared before the PDC to appeal a complaint by Justin Matheson.
The late filing was caused by a number of incidents, as indicated in the article, include health issues of my wife and computer glitches. Being his treasurer, it was my sole responsibility to fill all contributions and expenditures, but filing dates weren’t met.
The reporter indicated that Sen. McCoy “broke the law” by not disclosing how he was spending some of his campaign funds. Well, I wrote the checks for all expenditures and filed applicable reports.
Sen. McCoy has served his country with honor and is an Air Force veteran of 20 years. He is a wonderful husband of 53 years to his wife, Jeannie, and a tremendous father, grandpa and friend. He has served his 38th District with the utmost regard and integrity for the people of this great community.
Due to the above issues, I have relinquished my duties as Sen. McCoy’s treasurer. It was my pleasure to serve him for 18 years. I think him for accepting full responsibility before the PDC.
Good luck and best wishes to Sn. John McCoy
