Layoffs chipping away at local journalism, democracy

Recent layoffs at the Herald are dishonorable and heartbreaking. Carpenter Media bought this reputable paper just to gut it. Todd Carpenter lives thousands of miles away from Everett and does not give a hoot about our community. Todd, shame on you for chipping away at local journalism. Shame on you for chipping away at democracy. You have no business gobbling up these papers just to destroy them.

To publisher Rudi Alcott, shame on you too. You betrayed your team with your senseless words.

To the people of Snohomish County, we all suffer in news deserts. Think about how much more your elected officials can get away with when there’s no dedicated reporter paying attention.

Fight like hell to keep local journalism alive!
