I have been reading various blogs, letters to editors and just hearing people talk about Boeing and their recent move of one of the 787 lines to South Carolina. I am so surprised by the lack of concern of some people on this matter.
Yes, I hear fear … though, fear has never been a good way to solve anything. Have you heard of paralysis by analysis? I am afraid that this is where this is headed. By the time they analyze everything, it will be too late.
Our state and local leaders need to fight to keep them here! We have an extremely talented and skilled workforce that works for Boeing. We have one of the best locations you can find for Boeing. The University of Washington is one of the very best research universities in the country. Not to mention the community and technical colleges in the state.
Did you know that one out of every three to six jobs in Washington is either supported directly or indirectly by the aerospace industry? The multiplier of this is 3.96 for every one employee of Boeing. The math is there in front of you and the leaders. Let the leaders of this state and county know how you feel. Write to them and let it be known, we want them to work for us and this is a huge priority!
Even if Boeing were to gradually leave the area, this would have a devastating effect on Snohomish County and the state. I think that a Roundtable approach to this situation is the best way to come up with a solution. Yes, that means that everyone from the unions, government, residents, employees and Boeing would need to communicate and come up with a solution that would benefit all. Remember, we all work for our money. Make the leaders of this state work for theirs!
