Learn background on Joe Arpaio’s violations

Phil Beardsley, in his Sept. 11 letter to the editor, would do well to ignore whether the news is fake or not by doing some research — specifically access the court documents from 2008 that started the case against Arpaio and the Maricopa County (Arizona) Sheriff Office.

If Mr. Beardsley really wants truth, he should be willing to hear that the plaintiffs were either U.S. citizens or legal immigrants who looked and/or are Latino. The sheriff’s office ignored the 4th and 14th Amendments to the Constitution, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Article II subsection 8 of the Arizona Constitution and illegally detained people who were minding their own business but were suspected of being brown-skinned.

Maybe Mr. Beardsley would like to further research through all the years’ of court documents and see that Arpaio was convicted of ignoring court orders to stop illegally detaining people. This letter does not even begin to address the inhumane treatment human beings suffered at the hands of Arpaio and sheriff’s office. Educate yourself before you deem to educate others please.
