For years I have heard the stories of the difficulty in dealing with individuals at the Everett School District athletic department in regard to utilizing the facilities our tax dollars support. For the second year in a row, I have had the displeasure of dealing with this apathy. For the second year in a row, I have had to ask myself the same question: Is it apathy or possibly just a conflict of interest?
Currently individuals from outside the Everett School District are making decisions regarding these facilities and their use. Is it in Everett athletes’ best interest that individuals from Marysville or Snohomish be capable of denying them the access to these facilities?
I believe a change is required in regard to who is put in charge of assigning these facilities. I believe an individual with ties to our own athletic community, not another community, should be given this responsibility. I believe that someone with solely Everett athletes’ best interest at heart be making these decisions. These are our community’s facilities to utilize, and it is wrong for someone from outside our community to deny us this access.
