Let’s define the American dream

We should run from those politicians and government officials who want to take care of us.

When a government provides for the needs of people, then personal liberty will have ceased for those cared for in proportion to the personal responsibility that they have surrendered. True liberty and responsibility are like opposite sides of the same coin. You can’t have one without the other.

To rob higher wage earners in order to provide for the needs of others is clearly immoral and is contrary to the spirit of our two glorious founding documents. It is also contrary to what it means to be an American. A true American is a person who governs himself without the need of a host of external laws to control his actions, because his own heart and conscience teaches him that “love works no ill to its neighbor.”

“The American Dream” is a favorite expression of politicians. However, they never take the time to define what that dream actually is. For me it is not the possession of two or three houses, several cars, a boat, a plane, a motor home, etc. It is to be the happy citizen of a nation whose government will jealously guard my individual freedom to succeed or fail, to be rich or poor according to my own industry, intelligence and aspirations. When a person is no longer free to die in poverty, nobody will be free.
