I am not impressed with Sea-Tac airport’s “solution” to the Christmas tree brouhaha. They might as well keep that “winter display” up until April! It is absolutely ridiculous that, in a country where religious freedom is sacrosanct and one of the foundations on which it was built, we cannot respect all faiths’ important holidays and display their symbols if we choose.
And I really get riled when I hear that I can’t enjoy Christmas decorations in public places because some other faith will be offended! Too bad! If they’re so offended and upset, they can go to some other country where there are no such freedoms. This is America! We all have the same right to observe our religious holidays and display symbols thereof under the First Amendment! I say let’s observe all religious holidays for all faiths! As overworked Americans we could use a few more days off anyway, but maybe we’d also begin to build awareness and sensitivity for others and their beliefs to boot.
This year, I urge everybody who celebrates Christmas to exercise their First Amendment rights and proudly display their Christmas trees — heck, make them red, white and blue! We need them now more than ever!
