Who would have thought that the defining, signature moment from the 2016 Rio Summer Olympiad would star an athlete from the Bahamas, who at this writing has one single medal compared to the current 75 held by the United States? And yet, that very thing happened, as runner Shaunae Miller’s head-first dive in the women’s 400 meters now sets her apart in Olympics lore as The Woman Who Would Not Be Denied.
There once was a 007 James Bond film called “Goldfinger.” Miller (wearing No. 7) won her race in, appropriately, .07 seconds … in what was truly a “Goldfinish”! This moment should forever pose the question for people in life: (as Don Henley would sing…) “How bad do you want it?” Obviously, Shaunae Miller wanted it very badly, and I as a result will remember this stunning image for the rest of my life from Rio D(iv)e Janeiro.
