I have been reading other people’s concerns regarding pets in the store. I have mentioned this three times to the grocery store where I have shopped for several years.
They explained all about the laws and what they can do and can’t do. It just sounds like you get the run-around, but of course they are just telling you what they have been told themselves.
I went to the store recently and saw a woman with a dog in her basket where the food goes with no blanket or covering for this dog to sit on. Then I saw a young man as I was leaving with a dog on a harness and a leash and on the side of its vest it was wearing said “Blind guide dog.” So you knew this young man definitely had a need for this animal to get his daily errands done.
I feel that these people who bring their animals into the store in a purse, stroller or in the basket of the store are taking advantage of the situation. If they were truly needed they would be out and on the floor helping their disabled owner. But if the disabled person is carrying or pushing the animal then the animal is not really helping with the disability of their owner. When you think about the babies, toddlers and the children that sit in these baskets that are eating, putting their hands in their mouths it really isn’t saying much about where our priorities are.
I love dogs but I really don’t think it would hurt them to stay at home while their owner goes to the grocery store.
