Letter writer should learn more about the religion

This is a response to Kenneth Weigel’s letter, “9-11 aftermath: You cannot reason with madmen,” printed on Sept. 4., Mr. Weigel and for that matter, The Herald, need to go to the dictionary to see the meaning of the word pagan. The dictionary defines the adjective pagan as, “1. Not Christian, Muslim, or Jewish. 2. Professing no religion; heathen.”

As a Muslim, I take offense at his inference that Islam is a pagan religion. You do not condemn an entire religion and its followers for the action of a few. Please take the time to learn about Islam. You will find that Islam is a peaceful religion that is very respectful of Jews and Christians. Try to find out why it is the world’s fastest growing religion. Find out why over 1.4 billion people across the globe proudly call themselves Muslims.

The language used by Mr. Weigel in his letter is very hateful, racist and bigoted. Sept. 11 was a tragedy and I condemn the perpetrators of this horrible crime against humanity. At the same time, I must confront Mr. Weigel about his bigoted views on Islam. However, instead of getting down to his level, I am going to take the high road and forgive him for his lack of knowledge about Islam and its followers. That is the true Islamic spirit.
