Levy will support quality education

As a teacher, parent and community member, I urge Lakewood voters to mark their calendars early for the upcoming levy election on Feb. 5. We are living in uncertain times and with that uncertainty comes too easily a complacency toward commitment. Our nation was rocked Sept. 11 with a horrific reminder that we can’t take anything for granted. Our community has been jolted with the impact of recession and military alert. Amidst ambiguity, we must hold on even tighter to certain truths.

Our children’s future is one truth and one reality we can’t get complacent about. They will grow no matter what, but the quality of their education is determined by your vote on Feb. 5. Our community of voters has shown remarkable support in the past. I implore you be there on Feb. 5 to vote again and mark your support for our children and our schools.

The levy election is asking voters to approve a two-year levy with no increase in the levy rate. This levy will renew funding for scheduled curriculum adoptions, emergency preparedness, classroom based technology enhancements and bus transportation. All of our school district’s efforts are focused on helping Lakewood’s students succeed. Let’s do our part as a community of voters by voting Feb. 5.
