Thank you for your story on the Chisholm family (“A Habit of Compassion, Dec. 17”). How stirring to read of a family that embraces the hardship of raising two disabled children while also continuing to think of others. All too often we hear stories of people who encounter life’s painful difficulties with a response of “I deserve better than this,” and then they abandon all responsibilities and take off to pursue an easier course. The Chisholm’s however, are a reminder that life’s greatest rewards will never come from the easy road. They’ve reminded me that every life has tremendous value, even if we have to make great personal sacrifices towards the well being of others.
God has obviously already blessed this family with incredible strength and compassion. May He bless the rest of us with similar insight.
