Anyone who comes to Everett in the morning and leaves in evening traffic hours knows what I mean. The traffic lights need to be programmed to favor incoming traffic in the morning and outgoing traffic in the evening to promote the safe, orderly and expeditious flow of traffic. Stopping 30-40 cars on the main flow to allow one or two cars to enter is just wasting time and fuel.
With fuel approaching $4 a gallon we need to be thinking of this. Cross traffic needs to find a way to enter the flow with right turns rather than stopping the main flow with left turns or they’ll just wait a little longer. How much fuel do you think it takes to get 30-40 cars moving from a dead stop versus one or two cars idling a few more minutes?
Even getting through town in the middle of the day is idiotic. One has to stop every 50 to 75 yards for another light, wasting fuel.
