It’s that time of year when we all are flooded with political advertisements. I, for one, toss 100 percent of the mailed literature into the recycle bin on my way into the house from the mailbox. The reason? Most of the advertising is misleading, unfair and intentionally leaves out key information.
A textbook example: Judge Charles Meyer’s re-election advertisement for Evergreen District Judge, printed in The Herald. He compares his experience to Patricia Lyon’s (model/waitress) and Terry Simon’s (actor). Why does he not list their current occupations? If he is this childish and unfair in a campaign to keep his job, why should we think he’ll be any different while on the bench?
