You published an amazing article on Mr. Tim Divers in the June 29 Herald. (“A passion for hot rods.”) It is very indicative of the growth and pertinence of this hobby. Perhaps the best thing a family can do is attend a car show.
What is particularly interesting to me is the mention of where these cars are built. Mr. Divers’ cars are absolutely the finest and he is in a league of very notable builders. But there are a huge number of cars that are built and being built by “garage builders” or hobbyists who build their own cars in garages located on every street in America. Specifically, within my neighborhood I estimate that two dozen cars are under construction or are complete. All types, from Model T Ford hot rods to exotic sports cars.
The quality is superior and they “show” very well. The quality and workmanship is nothing short of astounding. The cars are built by amateurs. and supported by small shops like Dreamers Street Rods, Kimbridge Enterprises, Eastside Truck Parts, and many others.
Fifty to 60 car shows are held in Western Washington annually. Most are outdoor, neighborhood events that typically raise money for charities.
It would be very interesting to discover what is in your neighbor’s garage.
