A Democrat Party precinct committee officer recently questioned The Herald’s endorsement of Mark Roe for prosecutor. Her letter highlights exactly why voters are so angry. Mark Roe is a career prosecutor with outstanding qualifications and a track record of effectiveness, who happens to be a Democrat. Jim Kenny is a Democrat, active in the party, who happens to want to be prosecuting attorney despite having only minimal qualifications.
The writer can’t understand why Kenny wasn’t selected (and won’t be elected) when he was the choice of the party machine. This is the party that gave us a health care law we didn’t want, a stimulus bill we didn’t want (and can’t afford), wants to raise taxes in the middle of a recession, and won’t meet its responsibilities such as passing a federal budget when that might interfere with getting re-elected.
Voters are angry because they need more qualified candidates like Mark Roe, who will continue to do an excellent job as our county prosecutor. The party machine instead favors politicians like Jim Kenny, who are loyal to the party regardless of job effectiveness.
