Marysville council made right decision

I am writing in response to the Aug. 22 letter written by Greg Hill (“Water Tower: This hunk of junk is a waste of money”).

I would find his views more credible if he had lived in Marysville more than eight years. Many of us who were born here, or who have lived here for a lot longer than him, value the water tower, see its historical significance, and are very pleased that it will remain as a proud symbol of our community. If he is so concerned about State Avenue, why hasn’t he heard about the beautification project? As far as his concern about our schools, I hope he will be the first in line to vote yes for the school bond measure next February.

Since I am the one who compared the tower to the Space Needle and the Golden Gate Bridge, let me address his comment that I “don’t get out much.” I “get out” plenty. I am a seasoned world traveler who has seen and visited sites and places he probably has only seen on TV.

The decision has been made and it was the right decision, so Mr. Hill should get over it. If this situation was so upsetting to him, where was he when the City Council was taking public comment recently?

There was no cover-up as he suggested; unfortunately, just some unforeseen and unexpected costs. If he thinks this is a cover-up, then maybe he needs to become more involved in the Marysville political arena. I hope to see him at some City Council meetings – or perhaps he should run for City Council himself.
