I take exception to the ACLU’s Jazmyn Clark’s claim that incarceration disrupts people’s lives and often makes recovery more difficult for vulnerable people, meaning criminals supporting addiction (“Marysville adopts mandatory sentences for repeated ‘public disorder,’” The Herald, Oct. 11).
Perhaps Ms. Clark would do well in any neighborhood that welcomes petty theft, criminal trespass, vehicle prowls, and public drug use; she would certainly have my thoughts and prayers. Please note she offers no relief for disruption to lives of crime victims.
Seems to me Ms. Clark missed the gist of the new ordinance: To deter and educe public disorder and to promote rehabilitation.
