I, like many others, am dismayed by the long lasting vituperation occurring by the people from the Vietnam era. Sometimes I think it is silly, but then I remember that people in the South still fight over the Civil War. Myself, I am from the World War II era and personally find it difficult to forget the Germans and Japanese were our enemies, and now they are our “friends” and own parts of the United States.
Still, when the importance of the vote for the president of our United States is concerned, I wonder if I would be best served by someone who has been under fire and reluctant to send anyone else, or someone who has not been under fire. I have not been able to answer that question yet.
However, I was personally very dismayed during the Republican run for president four years ago when President Bush “slimed” all over Sen. John McCain. Now, when he starts on Mr. Kerry, it seems like he is the one that has a hatred for the services, regardless of what he says. I was angry at Mr. McCain for campaigning for Mr. Bush after what happened, but like a true gentleman, he stood up for Mr. Kerry when this began. I think if it was Mr. McCain running, I would be happier with the Republican Party. But the fact that they lost the chance to have him for president keeps me from being able to tolerate the bad economics, this needless war and needless deaths that have come from this presidency.
